    Tsujiri Toronto's first North American outpost opened earlier this week near Bay and Dundas amid much fanfare. This is their first foray into a market outside Asia, but they are planning on expanding to other cities in North America in the future. I had the pleasure of getting a sneak peek of some of the products that Tsujiri Toronto has to offer a day before its soft opening, and got the chance to chat with one of the managers, Tylor Shek.

    Ebisu Japanese Restaurant originated from Vancouver, as its first location opened in December of 2006. There are two locations in Vancouver and one in Richmond, along with two restaurants under the Kamei names. The brand itself is very well-known in Vancouver, and they hope to expand it in Toronto with this new outpost.

    However, over the last two decades, much has changed, including the demise of arcade and game centers due the emergence of mobile phones and Netflix. The health movement over the last six years has also made Dave and Buster's traditional burger and fries menu far less appealing than what it was. With that being said, they have changed their food menu, and the options are now more diverse. The menu is rather extensive with items like shareable appetizers, side salads, beef steaks and ribs, pasta, sandwiches, and so much more.

    Morals Village is a hot pot restaurant chain with over 600 locations in China. They opened their first Canadian location in 2015, and has since grown at a relatively rapid pace. About 1.5 weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the Morals Village Mississauga Grand Opening Event. The Mississauga location is their 5th Canadian location, and they have plans to open another in Ottawa. With that being said, Morals Village prides themselves in providing top-notch quality and Szechuan cuisine influenced flavour with their hot pot offering.

    The Royal Winter Agricultural Fair is now open until November 13, 2016 at the Exhibition Place, Toronto. Start the holiday season early by attending one of the largest combined indoor agricultural fairs and international equestrian competitions in the world. The fair takes place every November in Toronto, and it is where guests can enjoy the best in agriculture, local food, and equestrian competitions from across the country. There are so many things to do, and see at this year's The Royal Winter Agricultural Fair.

The 12,000-square-foot Montecito opened up its doors late 2014, and is a partnership between Hollywood director Ivan Reitman and Chef Jonathan Waxman.

Stratosphere Gastrolounge & Winebar

The Kingsway neighborhood is home to several restaurants that has operated for many years. Stratosphere Gastrolounge & Winebar is one of the newer additions to the area having been opened for less than a year. They opened in the summer of 2015, and recently re-branded themselves as a "gastrolounge". The restaurant offers global cuisine in a rather spacious family dining setting with a monochromatic interior. I was told that the menu was also recently revamped to center on offering familiar gastropub fare with a more elevated flair. Stratosphere is open Monday to Sunday, and is located in the Etobicoke area of West Toronto with plenty of street parking available. I had the pleasure of attending a menu tasting at Stratosphere Gastrolounge & Winebar a couple of weeks back, where I got to try a few things from their menu.

The cocktail menu at Stratosphere Gastrolounge & Winebar features a great selection of infused-cocktails, where they combine liquors with fresh, seasonal ingredients. They're the only place in the surrounding area serving infused-cocktails, so I thought that it was an interesting concept. We opted to try the Strawberry Infused Rum Daiquiri (1.5 oz) - lime juice, simple syrup, sugar rim.

We started off with the mussels ($12) - served in a garlic white wine sauce, and they were quickly devoured. The generous portion of mussels was marinated in a flavorful white wine sauce, which was rather fragrant. The mussels themselves were plump, and tasted great!

I love chicken wings, so the Stratosphere "Twice Cooked" Wings ($14 - 1 lbs) - your choice of jerk, cajun, lemon pepper, mild, medium, hot, BBQ, was a must-order for me. The chef was nice enough to allow me to try two different flavors; lemon pepper, and jerk. Personally, I enjoyed the jerk wings more as it contained a lot more flavors compared to the lemon pepper wings.

The STRATOSPHERE Beef Burger ($17) - 9 oz. AAA ground sirloin with all the trimmings, served with hand cut fries, is their house specialty. All of the burgers on the menu are made in-house featuring ingredients that are sourced locally. However, I do find the burger to be priced a little too high.

For my entree, I opted for the Spaghetti di Mare ($19) - prawns, mussels, calamari, in a spicy tomato sauce. The spaghetti dish was simply presented on a white plate giving it a clean presentation look. The flavorful seafood spaghetti contained a healthy helping of seafood; prawns, mussels, and calamari mixed with a spicy tomato sauce. Overall, the spaghetti was executed nicely as the noodles weren't overcooked and the sauce helped to enhance the flavor of the seafood.


To end off the meal,  I got the crème brûlée as my dessert. The dessert consisted of a rich custard base topped off with caramelized sugar making it a satisfying end to the night!

Milestone's Grill & Bar

We often eat at some of surrounding chain restaurants after movie date nights at the Queensway Cineplex. Although, my SO lives downtown, he likes to drive us up to the Cineplex on Queensway as it's painfully difficult to get parking downtown especially on Fridays and Saturdays. We have dined at various Milestone's Grill & Bar on a few occasions, and I have to applaud them for consistency. At times, I find that chain restaurants can be a hit or a miss depending on the locations, but Milestone's Grill & Bar has been consistent with both their service and quality of food.

We were slightly disappointed that they were sold out of Prime Rib that night. I am assuming that it's one of the most popular cuts on the Milestone's Grill & Bar's menu. We decided to still get steaks - just different cuts.

I opted for the 8 oz Top Sirloin ($23) - signature seasoning, served with red wine jus and seasonal vegetables. My choice of side from the list was the red skin fries. I ordered my steak medium, and it turned out pretty tasty. The seasoning wasn't overwhelming salty and the meat itself was tender. However, I didn't really like the small salad portion that came with the dish. It barely had any green lettuces in the mix, but rather large chunks of peppers and onions.

My SO got the 12 oz Rib Eye ($32) - signature seasoning, served with red wine jus and seasonal vegetables with the choice of a baked potato with house-made sour cream, horseradish and chive sauce for a side.

Milestone's Grill & Bar offers casual fare at comparable prices as their competitors such as Joey's, Kelsey's, Jack Astor's Bar & Grill, Moxie's Grill & Bar, etc ... The overall atmosphere at this particular location was more low key with ample seating in the dining room. I have been to the Yorkdale location twice, and that location was louder compared to the one on Queensway. Overall, I thought that the service was good as our server was attentive despite waiting on four other tables in our allocated area in the dining room.

Similarly to the Yorkdale location, the Mississauga one isn't very consistent either. The last time I was here, my steak wasn't that great. I wanted a medium 8 oz rib eye, and my dish arrived kind of burnt.

Momiji Sushi Bar and Grill

My friends and I decided to stop by Momiji Sushi Bar and Grill for dinner before heading off to a house party last weekend. The restaurant is located in Etobicoke, and the ambiance is more upscale.

The restaurant was not too unreasonably priced  but compared to the average sushi joints; the prices are higher. The décor was more modern in design, and the dark interior provided a very calming dining atmosphere.

I ordered the beef teriyaki dinner ($18.00) which was served with miso soup, green salad and rice. The beef teriyaki was very tender and the sauce was noticeably flavorful. Additionally, the portion was a decent size, but there were about 2-3 pieces of pure fat.

My dish was good, and I did enjoy the atmosphere at Momiji Sushi Bar and Grill. However, I was quite disappointed with the lack of service. We were promptly seated and given the menus, but it took a while for anyone to come by to take our orders. Additionally, the food took long to arrive, and throughout the entire meal, no one came by to check up on us, and no one refilled our green tea.

Toji Sushi

Toji Sushi is a small family-run Japanese restaurant located in the west end of Toronto. The restaurant was clean, and decorated with lanterns, and wooden-panels seating. Toji Sushi has several lunch bento specials which are served from 11:00 am until 3 pm. I opted for the #34 BBQ Galbi bento box ($9.95). 

The bento box (#34) that I ordered came with three pieces of California rolls, steamed rice, four pieces of agedashi tofu, four pieces of galbi, and green salad.

Overall, I enjoyed my bento box. For those who are not familiar with galbi (Korean cuisine); it is marinated beef ribs with special sauce. The pieces of galbi were well-marinated and very sweet. I also liked the tangy salad dressing. The pieces of agedashi tofu ($4.50 for a full dish) were also delicious as they were soft, and the sauce was really good. Additionally, I normally don't like California rolls but the ones here were actually made well.

The toro (tuna belly) ($6.50) was neatly presented on its plate. The two pieces of sashimi were both fresh, smooth, and not overly thick slices, which made it enjoyable to eat. 

The sushi chef was friendly, and had a good sense of discipline. My overall impression of Toji Sushi was that the food was really good, and the service was friendly and relatively quick.
