    However, over the last two decades, much has changed, including the demise of arcade and game centers due the emergence of mobile phones and Netflix. The health movement over the last six years has also made Dave and Buster's traditional burger and fries menu far less appealing than what it was. With that being said, they have changed their food menu, and the options are now more diverse. The menu is rather extensive with items like shareable appetizers, side salads, beef steaks and ribs, pasta, sandwiches, and so much more.

About 1.5 weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the Morals Village Mississauga Grand Opening Event. The Mississauga location is their 5th Canadian location, and they have plans to open another in Ottawa. With that being said, Morals Village prides themselves in providing top-notch quality and Szechuan cuisine influenced flavour with their hot pot offering.

Every Sunday, Montecito offers a brunch buffet starting at 11 am to 3 pm.  Brunch isn't new at Montecito, but they recently revamped their brunch buffet, and added several new items to the menu. The 12,000-square-foot Montecito opened up its doors late 2014, and is a partnership between Hollywood director Ivan Reitman and Chef Jonathan Waxman. The intricately designed 2-floors space is very California-inspired with several Hollywood motifs throughout the restaurant including Stay Puft from Ghostbusters, and film clips from Ivan Reitman's directorial. Additionally, navigating through the different food stations was made easy as the buffet station was set in one large area. It also overlooked the open kitchen, so you can see the staff cooking away.
Although, the daily menu at Montecito is inspired by both owners' California roots, they are focused on using seasonal, fresh ingredients that are locally sourced from Canadian farms. The Sunday brunch buffet is $39 per person including unlimited coffee and tea, but patrons do have the option to add $5 for either a Caesar's or mimosa. Montecito's Sunday brunch buffet offers a selections of made to order omelettes, and pancakes, fresh breakfast and brunch items, an inventive carving station (not your traditional roast beef), charcuterie, assorted salad, chilled seafood, and an impressive spread of desserts. Below are some of the standout features that's offered at Montecito for their Sunday brunch buffet.

Salad Bar / Cold Cuts & Cheese - The spread encompasses a variety of salads, and a small selection of antipastis including my favorite - kale salad. Additionally, there was a nice selection of cured meats along with some local cheeses. 

Seafood - One of the highlights of the revamped brunch is the addition of the seafood table, which now includes freshly shucked oysters, smoked salmon, and cold crab legs. I made sure to grab a few crab legs, and oysters as I came across the table.

Salad Wrap - There was a server standing by at the carving station offering pulled pork shoulder lettuce wraps.

Brunch Essentials - Montecito also offers a few hearty morning fare like bacon, sausages, and potatoes. I would have loved if they had offered scrambled eggs as well, but they do make up for the lack of it with their freshly ordered omelettes. What I enjoyed most in this area was their succulent fried chicken, which was juicy and crispy. I liked that it wasn't breaded too thickly, and the chicken itself was moist.

Hot Entrees -  Their hot entrees selection was quite unique, as I haven't seen any other brunch serving these particular items before. The frittata is an egg-based Italian dish, and it had a nice silky texture to it. I also want to say that the polenta from Montecito was one of the best I have had, as it was perfectly smooth and creamy. Personally, I didn't have room for the meat pie, so I can't comment on its taste.

Fresh To Order - Two items that have to be ordered from the server are the pancakes (plain or chocolate chips) and omelette. Perhaps, I should have ordered more than one to make it more picturesque, but the pancake was super fluffy. 

Dessert & Pastries Table - The dessert table was located on the other side of the restaurant. I wasn't expecting much, but there was a plethora of dessert options on the other side, which I was pleasantly surprised to see. It was definitely a great end to a Sunday brunch! 


My Plates

I had an enjoyable Sunday buffet brunch at Montecito, and I noticed that the buffet was always being replenished. I really liked the variety of food, especially the addition of the seafood table. I was too busy taking a lot of photos of the food the first time around, so I am looking forward to returning to fully enjoy my experience (sans photo taking).

$39 per adult, and $19.50 for children between the age of 6-12 (free for those five and under).

Genghis Khan Mongolian Grill

Genghis Khan Mongolian Grill is a Mongolian-inspired DIY stir-fry and Northern Chinese buffet on Don Mills Road in North York, ON. The restaurant is separated into two sections - the Mongolian grill and the buffet area that serves Chinese hot foods. It should be noted that they do not serve Mongolian food here at Genghis Khan Mongolian Grill. Rather, it's a borrowed concept from the legend of the great warrior, Genghis Khan, from the 13th century. Back then, Genghis Khan and his soldiers would prepare and cook their meals on their upturned shields over a hot fire, and would use their swords to cook the ingredients. This is pretty much where the concept originated from, and it has been popularized throughout the world.

The concept is pretty simple, as diners would choose various ingredients from the displays to combine together to make their desired bowls. Genghis Khan Mongolian Grill offers an array of meats, ingredients, vegetables, and sauces to mix and match, so there's definitely something for everyone. First up was the meat station where you have the option to choose from lamb, pork, chicken, and beef. I recommend taking more than 4-5 slice of meat, as they do shrink in size on the grill. I was impressed with the variety of sauces that they offer, as there were plenty of pre-made sauces, and oils/seasonings (chili oil, sesame oil, fish sauce, cooking wine, etc ...)  available. After choosing your meat, you would then add whatever vegetables, type of noodle, and sauces you want, and then take it to the grill to be cooked. The griddle operator/chef would then take your raw bowl, and cook it on the large, and round iron grill  (with the addition of oil and water). The grill is rather hot, so it cooks quite fast within 5 minutes time (heats up to 300 °C).

They had a wide selection of  vegetables and noodles options to choose from.

 Several sauces are available to customize as you pleases.


I ate two bowls of noodles from the Mongolian Grill. I opted for udon the first time around, and then switched it up to egg noodles for my second bowl. I picked the right combination of sauces, and they tasted great.


To the left of the restaurant was the traditional Chinese buffet offering things such as fried rice, stir-fry vegetables, noodles, ribs, chicken wings, dim sum etc ... The selection wasn't too bad, but was limited compared to other Chinese buffets. However, the Mongolian grill is the main attraction of Genghis Khan Mongolian Grill anyway. Price wise, I would say it's on par with buffets in the area as dinner for an adult is $23.95 (Mon to Thu) and $26.95 (Weekends/Holidays).


The dessert buffet table consisted of a chocolate fountain with fondue, cakes, brownies, cream puffs, and slices of fresh fruits.

Overall, it was a fun yet unique dining experience, and I really enjoyed creating my own noodle bowls. The restaurant was a little far for us (as we drove from downtown), but it's a nice place to have dinner with family or friends.
